It's here! 2014. A new year, a new beginning. Although the Lord is so gracious to offer us a new beginning every hour and every day, the newness of a new year is a special gift. This is when we can set new goals, resolve to do better, be better, become healthy, etc. Many of us find that these "resolutions" are broken by somewhere around January 15th, but when we truly rely on God for growth and change is when we find these changes possible. Jesus himself said, "all things are possible with God." (Mark 10:27)
I, along with my husband, have many new goals for this new year. We want to improve our health by eating good healthy foods and exercising regularly. We want to improve our financial situation by being wise with what the Lord has blessed us with and make good business decisions. We want to become spiritually fit and more involved with our church community so that we can be a blessing to our neighbors and friends. I personally want to spend more time in God's word and soak up His wisdom.
One area I have struggled in the past has been with memorizing scripture. This is a personal goal for me this year, but I thought I'd open it up to any of our Barnabas Commission friends to join me! I am going to choose one verse (or group of verses) each month. I will write up a quick blog about it and post it to our Facebook page. You can choose to memorize the same verse or pick one that that speaks to your life more personally, but doing it together will hold us accountable and hopefully create lasting change in our spiritual lives! Here is my scripture for January:
"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me." Psalm 51:10-12
